ARE THE MOOSE STILL ABOUT ???

This a question we still get when someone makes a reservation to stay at the Algonquin Lakeside Inn at this time of year, in fact right now is the peak time to view Moose.
Our guests on average have been seeing 4-7 Moose a day, in fact just tonight less than a mile from the Inn on hwy#60 at the entrance to Ragged Falls there is a small pond/lake and swimming across was a young bull Moose, sorry to say i just missed him as he walk off into the bush when I arrived. The good news, members of the Toronto Digital camera club that have been staying with us this weekend were able to see him and get some good pictures...

MOOSE LOOSE IN ALGONQUIN PARK

Got up early this morning determined to see if I could locate any new Moose Calves,
as one our our guests at the Algonquin inn had spotted one yesterday.
As you can see in this shot of a Beaver lodge the lakes this morning were steaming in the early morning light, along highway # 60



It didn't take me long before I came upon a female Moose with this springs new calf in tow, only two and half kms into the Algonquin Park.



Here is Mom keeping an eye out, as the young at this age are vulnerable to bears and wolves.



Just a little further down the road, I came across these two Moose enjoying a quiet morning stroll down highway 60





A little further on I came across two Bull Moose near the highway, and as you can see now that their racks are fully developing and they are beginning to gain some serious weight and develop their summer coats. In total, I spotted 11 Moose today

Moose on hwy # 60 just along from Algonquin inn

went into the park this afternoon (looking for loons)
located 7 Moose,the first was just after leaving Algonquin inn and before the
west gate so still in Muskoka, and in Algonquin Park,the other 5 were scattered along the highway.

today Sunday was a great Sunny day went for a drive in the park,knowing tomorrow will be snow flurries again,on the way back to Algonquin inn looking south on hwy 60 spotted two moose,just up from the mizzy lake trail a cow and a calf...first moose this year .
